This study identifies environmental burden as a significant determinant of surgical complications. Using the Environmental Justice Index, increased environmental stressors such as air pollution and proximity to transportation infrastructure correlate with higher postoperative morbidity, highlighting novel targets for policy intervention to reduce health disparities.
