The Portuguese Heart Failure Prevalence Observational Study (PORTHOS) identifies a high prevalence (16.54%) of heart failure (HF) among community-dwelling adults aged 50 years and older in Portugal. Predominantly, HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) constitutes over 90% of cases. Most HF diagnoses were previously unrecognized, underscoring the importance of NT-proBNP-based screening combined with echocardiographic assessment in early detection.
