Evaluating High Intensity Interval Training Versus Moderate Intensity Continuous Training in Fibrotic Interstitial Lung Disease: Insights from a Randomized Controlled Trial
High intensity interval training (HIIT) was compared with standard moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) in patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease (fILD) during pulmonary rehabilitation.
Both HIIT and MICT resulted in clinically important improvements in cycle endurance time and six-minute walk distance without significant differences between the two exercise modalities.
HIIT was safe, well-tolerated, and had similar adherence and intensity achievements compared to MICT, suggesting it is a viable alternative exercise strategy in fILD.
