Evaluating Complication Rates in Post-Weight-Loss Body Contouring: Comparing Surgery, GLP-1 Pharmacotherapy, Combination, and Lifestyle Approaches

Highlight

The increasing use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) has expanded non-surgical weight-loss options, generating interest in their impact on body-contouring surgical outcomes. This large retrospective cohort study compared complication rates following body-contouring procedures in patients with varied weight-loss backgrounds—bariatric surgery, injectable GLP-1 pharmacotherapy, combination therapy, and lifestyle modification. Notably, weight-loss modality did not influence the 90-day postoperative complication rate, while higher BMI at the time of surgery and presence of diabetes emerged as independent risk factors.
