Background: Understanding the Complexity of Neuroendocrine Carcinomas
Neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) represent a diverse and aggressive group of malignancies that arise from neuroendocrine cells scattered throughout various anatomical sites. These cancers pose significant clinical challenges due to their heterogeneity, aggressive behavior, and poor prognosis. Despite advances in molecular oncology, the translational gap remains wide — limited by incomplete understanding of NEC biology, scarce validated biomarkers, and few effective targeted therapies. Unraveling the molecular architecture of NEC across tissue origins is critical to develop precision medicine strategies that can improve clinical outcomes.
