Highlight
The Bone Health Index (BHI) quantifies average cortical thickness of metacarpal bones to assess fracture risk in children with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). BHI demonstrated superior predictive performance for fractures over conventional DXA-based bone mineral density (BMD) measurements, especially in infants under five. This method provides a practical, radiation-efficient alternative where DXA is unavailable or technically challenging.
